We have sent down this Book to you, so worship Allah with sincere devotion and keep the religion purely for Him.

(Qur’an 39:1)

Allah has revealed the best discourse — a Book consistent in its parts and often repeated. The skins of those who fear their Lord tremble at it; then their hearts and skins soften to the remembrance of Allah. That is Allah’s guidance, by which He guides whom He wills. And whoever Allah leaves astray — for him there is no guide.

(39:23)

We have sent down this Book to you for the benefit of mankind. Whoever follows its guidance does so for his own good, and whoever turns away from it does so to his own loss. And you, O Prophet, are not appointed as a guardian over them.

(39:41)

The above verses are from Surah Az-Zumar (39), in which it is clearly stated that this Book (the Qur’an) is revealed by Allah for the guidance of all mankind. Whoever wishes may take guidance from it, and whoever chooses misguidance — the Messenger ﷺ is not responsible for him.

Similarly, the Qur’an repeatedly states that the Messenger ﷺ followed only what was revealed to him:

Surah Al-An‘am (6:50)

Surah Al-A‘raf (7:203)

Surah Yunus (10:15)

Surah Al-Ahqaf (46:9)

This makes it clear that all religious commands have been laid down by Allah in the Qur’an, and the Messenger ﷺ only followed that revelation. The same applies to all believers: they must follow only this Book — the best Hadith — whose narrator is Allah Himself, and whose conveyor was His final Messenger, Muhammad ﷺ.

In Surah Al-Qamar (54:17, 22, 32, 40), Allah repeatedly says that He has made the Qur’an easy to understand, so that people may take heed.

This introduction is presented so that every sane and mature person may decide using their own intellect and awareness that the Qur’an is Allah’s final Book of guidance, revealed for the welfare of all humanity. Its verses are clear, simple, and self-explanatory. One verse explains another, leaving no ambiguity. That is why Allah says at the beginning of the Qur’an: “This is the Book in which there is no doubt.”

Allah has called this revelation the best of speech and has issued a challenge: if you are in doubt, produce even one chapter like it.

Sadly, the inheritors of this Book did what the followers of earlier scriptures had done: they mixed human-made teachings into Allah’s words and attributed them to the Prophets. Since Allah Himself took responsibility for preserving the Qur’an, His enemies could not alter it, so they introduced collections of narrations in the name of Hadith and placed them parallel to the Qur’an.

As a result, the pure Deen of Islam was distorted into a religion, and religion was divided into sects. Today, the downfall of the Muslim Ummah is due to this very sectarianism, which is rooted in these narrations.

From Adam to Muhammad ﷺ, Allah gave only one Deen — Islam, for the welfare of all mankind. Religions divide people, while Deen unites humanity. That is why Allah commanded:

“Hold firmly to the rope of Allah (the Qur’an) all together and do not become divided.”

(Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:103)

Ramadan is the blessed month in which the Qur’an was revealed so that people may distinguish between right and wrong. Yet, sadly, the beginning of this month itself becomes a cause of division due to differing traditions. Disputes over moon sighting create disunity, even though the Qur’an clearly states that Allah has set the stages of the moon so that people may calculate time and years (10:5), meaning a proper calendar can be established for unity and planning.

When Muslims followed Qur’anic guidance, they rose from Arabia and led the world. But when they abandoned the Qur’an and followed traditions, decline became their fate.

Today, Muslims face humiliation worldwide, while nations that follow divine principles — even if not Muslim — are progressing.

May Allah grant us the ability to understand the Qur’an, reflect upon it, and make it our guide, rather than imprisoning it within chains of traditions. As the Messenger ﷺ will complain on the Day of Judgment:

“O my Lord! Indeed, my people abandoned this Qur’an.”

(Surah Al-Furqan 25:30)

May Allah enable us to understand the Quran Al Furqan and act upon it, and make both our worldly life and the Hereafter peaceful and successful.
